Van driver leaves vehicle in way of plane propeller

There are some silly things that drivers have done, however a van driver in Algeria has gone some way to being up there with the silliest.

According to AirLive, the incident took place at Algeria's Algiers Houari Boumadiene International Airport and the driver parked his Peugeot van on the tarmac.
The Peugeot was left in line of taxiing aircraft and an Air Algerie ATR 72-500 crashed into van.

The propeller broke through the van's windscreen and severely dented the roof of the vehicle.

It is unknown whether the driver was inside at the time but no injuries were reported from the incident which took place on Thursday.

A photo of the aftermath showed the extreme damage to the Peugeot Partner.

Algerian reports suggest the unnamed driver 'did not respect the security distance' and this lead to the incident.

The aircraft is one of 15 ATR 72s currently in use by Air Algerie and has been in service since 1989. The aircraft holds up to 70 passengers and is used as a short haul airplane.

The circumstances of the accident are unclear, as it is unknown whether the van was moving or the plane was leaving or arriving at the airport.

Commenters on Twitter suggested that the plane wasn't moving at the time, and the clumsy driver drove into it instead, which makes the incident even more ridiculous.
