There's nothing worse than getting lost on holiday - so it's lucky that these days, technology can usually come to the rescue.

But what if you're stuck somewhere with no wifi signal? Using your data roaming while abroad can cost you a small fortune, so is best to avoid.

1. GuidePal City Guides
Local hotspots are highlighted in each city and it also allows you to create your own digital guide book of favourite places to share with friends.

Those who love to plan will be a big fan of Citymaps, the app allows you to make your own map or travel to-do list. Once you're done, you can re-live the perfection holiday by reviewing the notes you took on the app along the way.

3. Gogobot
Love postcards but never get round to sending them? Gogobot lets you send them on the app! You can also filter locations based on price range, availability and popularity among your Facebook friends.
