Man held on suspicion of murder after woman found dead at farm

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a farm.

Humberside Police were called to Grange Farm, Goxhill Lane, Seaton, after 59-year-old Fiona Southwell was found dead, shortly before 7pm on Friday.

The farm and an address in Hornsea have been cordoned off, the force said.

Police want to hear from anyone who used an old railway track, popular with walkers and cyclists and which passes the farm, between 7am and 7pm on Friday.

Specialist officers were working to support the victim's family.

A force spokesman said: "As part of enquiries a 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody being questioned by detectives."

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Cockerill, who is leading the investigation, said: "Fiona Southwell's death is being treated as suspicious and a team of detectives from the Major Incident Team and other departments are carrying out a large number of enquiries to establish how she died and identify those responsible.

"We are supporting the victim's family and keeping them informed about developments in the case.

"There has been an arrest in connection with the murder, however we still need the public's help in piecing together the circumstance of Fiona's death.

"I would specifically like to speak to anyone using the old railway track between Hull and Hornsea between 7am and 7pm on Friday 15 July who may have seen something suspicious or untoward.

"The track passes the farm and is well used by cyclists and walkers and I would urge people using the track to call us if they think they can help.

"Your information, no matter how small, could hold the key to establishing the circumstances of Fiona Southwell's death.

"Anyone with information should call 101 quoting log 517 of 15/07/16 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
