One toddler from Cambridgeshire could be set for a new lease of life, thanks to an anonymous donation to a crowdfunding campaign

Teddy Betts is two-years-old, but when he was just 12 days old he was struck down with meningitis.

This left Teddy with brain damage and a blood clot also meant that he lost the use of his right leg.

The little boy is also living with hydrocephalus and nystagmus and has spent a lot of time in hospital and in surgery since he was born.

While Teddy can sit independently for a few seconds at a time, he is yet to learn how to crawl, roll, standing or walk.

His parents, Fabienne and Jimmy, decided to launch a GoFundMe campaign to try and help their little man out, with the goal of buying a Power Chair.

Fabienne, Teddy's full time carer, said: "Developmentally Teddy is delayed but despite the long list of conditions and diagnoses he is an incredibly happy and communicative little boy.

"A Power Chair will change Ted's life – he's ready to learn some independence and have the chance to do what other two-year-olds experience and we're desperate to give him this opportunity."

But the chairs don't come cheap, they cost around £6,500, but it will grow with Teddy and he should be able to use it for at least eight years.

On the GoFundMe page the parents explain that there is no NHS funding for power chairs for young children, even though it would have the power to change Teddy's life.

They add: "We are hoping to get enough money together to be able to get teddy a power chair to allow him to move himself around. It will literally change his life but it's completely out of reach for us financially."

The Betts family were hoping to raise more than £6,000 to put towards the chair and were stunned when, on Wednesday night, an anonymous donation of almost £3,500 took them way over their target!

Speaking after the shock donation, Fabienne said: "The TinyTrax is way out of reach for us financially.

"At first we were hesitant about setting up an online campaign but the GoFundMe donations have been coming from anyone and everyone – it's unbelievable.

"We cannot believe that somebody made such a large donation to cover all £3.5k of the remaining target! Thank you whoever you are!"

The total amount raised is now at £6,320 thanks to the donations of 108 people in just 16 days.
