Mick Jagger to be a father again at 72

Sir Mick Jagger is expecting his eighth child at the age of 72.

A spokesman for The Rolling Stones frontman confirmed the singer's girlfriend, American ballerina Melanie Hamrick, is pregnant.

Sir Mick, who is a great-grandfather, has seven children -- Karis, Jade, Elizabeth, James, Georgia, Gabriel and Lucas -- whose ages range from 45 to 17.

The news comes just two months after Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Wood, became a father again at 68 after his wife Sally Humphreys gave birth to twin girls.

Sir Mick and Ms Hamrick, who has reportedly performed with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, began dating after the suicide of L'Wren Scott in 2014, Sir Mick's partner of 13 years.

His latest child will be his eighth with five different women.

He has a son, Karis Hunt Jagger, 45, from his relationship with Marsha Hunt and a daughter Jade Jagger, now 44, with his ex-wife Bianca.

Sir Mick had four children with his ex-partner Jerry Hall - Elizabeth, 32, James, 30, Georgia, 24, and Gabriel 19.

He also had a son, Lucas, 17, following a brief relationship with Brazilian model Luciana Gimenez. The liason ended Sir Mick 's 22-year-relationship with Hall, who is now married to media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Sir Mick has five grandchildren and became a great-grandfather in May 2014 when Jade's daughter Assisi gave birth to a baby girl.

In May, Wood revealed that Sir Mick, who turns 73 on July 26, was one of the first people to visit his newborns and said: "Mick popped in on the third day. He couldn't wait to see them."
