French air traffic control (ATC) have gone on strike again causing travel disruption for thousands of British holidaymakers.

The strike will continue until 4am on Wednesday morning. This is the 13th strike in the last 14 weeks and their 53rd strike in the last seven years, according to budget airline Ryanair.

The airline says it has had to cancel 102 flights on Tuesday, which will affect over 18,000 customers, with 100,000 more suffering delays.

Speaking to City Am, a Ryanair spokesman said: "These unacceptable French strikes have become weekly events by now, aimed at causing maximum disruption for families and business passengers, which is why we are calling on the European Commission to take action to prevent these ATC strikes from disrupting the travel plans of Europe's citizens and their families."

The spokesman added that the recent Brexit vote "underlines that the EU Commission must begin to deliver real benefits for Europe's consumers, and show families and holidaymakers that Europe is on their side and will not allow a small group of French ATC unions to repeatedly close the skies over Europe".

The Telegraph reports that Easyjet has cancelled 46 flights and is expecting delays, while British Airways is allowing customers to rebook free of charge if their service is affected.

The site adds that airports across France are also likely to experience delays, including Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux.

According to the Liverpool Echo, four flights have been cancelled at Liverpool Airport on Tuesday.

An airport spokesman said the strike "is affecting predominantly French airports, but can also affect planes travelling over French airspace", and advised all passengers to check with their airlines before travelling.

According to the Nottingham Post, two Ryanair flights from East Midlands Airport have been cancelled - the 11.20am plane to Limoges (FR1633) and the 5.05pm flight to Dinard (FR1653).

It is believed the ATC workers are striking over pay and staffing issues.
