Eight people had to be rescued after getting stranded at the top of a 100ft roller coaster in Oklahoma.

One adult and seven children had to be helped down by firefighters after the Silver Bullet roller coaster "just didn't make it over a hill" and became stuck.

According to ABC News, Oklahoma City Fire Department District Chief Benny Fulkerson said cars were chained to the rail before riders were walked down to safety.

It's thought the riders were stranded for around an hour in 100-degrees heat. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Melissa Houston, the commissioner of the Labor Department, which regulates amusement park rides, temporarily shut the ride down on Wednesday following the incident, according to the Washington Post.

The ride reopened on Thursday afternoon and officials released a statement explaining what happened.

According to Koco.com, it said an "interruption of power triggered the Silver Bullet's computerised safety system, causing the train to stop mid-cycle".

The site added that Ms Houston said you are more likely to be struck by lightning than get injured at an amusement park.
