'Exemplary' Wales fans praised ahead of Euro 2016 quarter-final

Welsh fans have been praised for their "exemplary" behaviour at Euro 2016 ahead of Friday's quarter-final clash with Belgium.

Thousands of fans have followed Chris Coleman's side at their first major championships for 58 years.

After topping Group B, the Welsh beat Northern Ireland in the last 16 to set up a clash against the Red Devils in Lille on Friday night.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts, National Police Chiefs' Council lead for football policing, said: "The behaviour of the Welsh fans during Euro 2016 has been exemplary and we hope this will continue as the team progresses throughout the tournament.

"When previously working with the French police in Lille we saw a very effective safety and security operation, which we hope to replicate for the next game."

He added there will be a ban on drinking in public areas as well as bars serving customers with plastic cups rather than glasses.
