Tennis fans flock to Wimbledon hoping for sunshine and thrills

Wimbledon gets underway today with thousands of fans expected to queue over the fortnight, hoping to catch their favourites battling it out on the grass of Wimbledon.

World number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic opens play on what is expected to be a dry and sunny day.

Also in action will be seven-time champion Roger Federer.

Britain's James Ward, 29, presents Djokovic with his first-round Wimbledon test, when the pair open up play on Centre Court at 1pm. Federer will close the day's proceedings on the court when he takes on Argentinian Guido Pella.

But Murray fans will have to wait until Tuesday to see him play against fellow Brit, Liam Broady, as he begins his hunt for a second Wimbledon title.

The 2013 winner has already reached two grand slam finals this year and is seeded second for the Championships.

Judy Murray says the key is for him to keep his head down.

She told the Press Association: "He has got a strong team around him so the key is to keep your head down and just take one match at a time.

"It really is as simple as that and not to jump too far ahead and prepare as well as you can.

"If he produces his best form then he is obviously going to be one of the contenders."

Those not lucky enough to get a ticket for the match could end up watching from a soggy Henman Hill as the Met Office forecasts rain to move in over SW19 by the afternoon.
