After a miserable start to summer, this weekend will see more stormy weather which will continue into next week, say weather forecasters.

On Saturday, Glastonbury revellers are set to witness a mix of sunshine and showers, with the chance of some heavy rain and thunder as the day goes on, later clearing for a drier evening with temperatures around 18C.

Emma Sharples from the Met Office told the Press Association: "Showers will fade in the west overnight but will continue in London. Both areas should be dry by Sunday morning."

Monday is expected to see a mix of showers and sunshine, and the next few days could see heavy showers with thunder and hail.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, forecaster Callum MacColl added: "With these heavy showers there's potential for 10-15mm of water to fall - but they are a different beast to what we've seen earlier this week, which was far worse.

"There is still scope for some flooding however with the wet weather we have already experienced, and Northern Ireland and Scotland are at greatest risk of that."

Met Office forecaster Maddie Burgess told the Mirror: "Next week continues to stay quite unsettled with a more westerly flow on Monday bringing bands of rain which could be prolonged with the east perhaps escaping the rain.

"Into Tuesday and we keep with the showers which will be heavy at times with the risk of hail and thunder."
