Greek hotel refuses to change Brit's pounds to euros following Brexit

A British tourist in Greece has spoken of the moment he was told he could not exchange pounds for euros at his holiday resort following Britain's vote to leave the EU.

Matt Rooney is staying at the Blue Lagoon Resort in Kos, where a sign has been posted informing guests that they cannot change their sterling.

The sign reads: "Dear guests, we would like to inform you that we cannot exchange British or Scottish pounds at the moment, as we do not have an official exchange rate from the central bank. Thank you for your understanding!"

Mr Rooney tweeted a photo of the sign and wrote: "It's beginning already! We're in Greece, no cash exchange & no cash machine withdrawals for Brits. Great #brexitfail".

In an interview with BBC Nottingham, he said: "For us it's not too bad, it's not the end of the world, we have enough money. The hotel has been brilliant advising people to go down into the local town to see if they can exchange cash."

Speaking to ITV News, he later added that the cash machines are now working in the hotel and staff admitted that it is a "confusing time".
