Tense scenes in EastEnders as Les Coker 'betrays' his wife and suffers a health scare
EastEnders will ramp up the drama next week as Les Coker, played by Roger Sloman, will give in to his feelings and betray his wife Pam before suffering a major health scare with his heart.
Pam (Lin Blakley) and Les's marriage has been under great strain ever since she found out about his cross-dressing. The situation has been made much worse thanks to the villainous Aunt Babe (Annette Badland), who has been blackmailing the pair with the threat of exposing his secret.
Although Pam has tried to understand Les cross-dressing as alter-ego Christine, she wants it all to remain a private matter.
Les, desperate to save their marriage, got rid of Christine's clothes which made Pam think Christine would no longer be a part of their lives.
But Pam makes a shocking discovery in dramatic scenes in the BBC One soap - Christine is back. A huge row ensues and ends with Les being rushed to hospital.
Roger told Inside Soap: "Pam isn't happy at all when she finds Les dressed as Christine.
"By burning Christine's clothes in front of Pam a few months back, Les was declaring that it was over and he was moving on. So this is another betrayal for his wife, and Les feels awful."
Les and Pam have reached breaking point with Aunt Babe and, worried that Les' secret will be revealed, Pam goes to desperate lengths to try and stop the wily old woman.
Buckling under the stress of mounting money problems, Les sees Peggy Mitchell's funeral as one possible way of easing their woes. However, Peggy's family are stopped in their tracks when they hear the price funeral director Les proposes to charge.
A confrontation in the Queen Vic over the cost of Peggy's funeral results in Pam laying the blame firmly at Aunt Babe's door.
The scenes in this episode will be broadcast on June 28.
