Ever fancied buying your very own private island but thought you couldn't afford it in a million years? Well, now you can make like a celebrity as one beautiful spot in Scotland is available to buy at the pretty reasonable price of £500,000.

Harbour Island is a nine-acre private island situated just off Crinan Harbour (100 miles west of Glasgow), and comes with an (albeit unmodernised) three-bedroom cottage - all for the price of a London flat.

The property is on the market with Savills, and the agent says: "Crinan is a small charming west coast harbour, which forms the sea end of the Crinan Canal. The Canal opened in 1801 and stretches for nine miles, from Ardrishaig on Loch Fyne to Crinan on the Sound of Jura, and provides a shortcut from the Firth of Clyde to the Western Isles.

"There are 15 locks in the nine-mile stretch of water and every year between 2,000 and 3,000 vessels, mostly pleasure craft, use the canal.
