Virgin 'treasure hunters' could win trip to Caribbean

Updated

Virgin is to launch a UK-wide treasure hunt in July offering people the chance to win one of nine places to Necker Island in the Caribbean to meet Sir Richard Branson.

The "V Marks the Spot" competition coincides with the official launch of a free new loyalty programme on July 1 called Virgin Red, which unites all Virgin's UK businesses across one loyalty scheme.

Available as an app on Android or iOS, Virgin Red provides access to offers and rewards for people using Virgin companies such as Virgin Media, Virgin Trains, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Games , Virgin Active, Virgin Holidays, Virgin Experience Days, Virgin Balloon flights, Virgin Vouchers, Virgin Money and Virgin Wines.

Some other companies, such as Caffe Nero, are also taking part in the loyalty programme.

Offers being made available on Virgin Red include Buy One Get One Free on hot drinks at Caffe Nero and 20% off Virgin Trains and Virgin Trains West Coast for new customers only. Other examples of offers being made available on the app include 60% off a case of Virgin Wines and 3,000 free Flying Club Miles.

People do not have to be an existing Virgin customer to use the app, as they can download it and win points and get discounted wine or train tickets for example, as they go along.

The V Marks the Spot competition will see a trail of one million "gold coins" hidden across the UK throughout July. The more coins people collect, the greater their chances of getting to Necker Island. Coins may be found printed in Virgin's adverts, with digital versions also popping up on Virgin's websites and social channels.

To help members find them, daily clues as to their whereabouts will be delivered through the Virgin Red app. All coins will be accompanied with a code for treasure hunters to enter.

The nine winners of the competition, each with a "plus one", will fly to Necker Island to meet Sir Richard and dig for a buried treasure chest containing thousands of pounds-worth of Virgin prizes.

The Virgin Group of companies in the UK includes more than 20 businesses and 18 million customers.
