Bus driver arrested for 'banning gay couple'

A bus driver has been arrested after allegedly verbally abusing a gay couple and banning them from his vehicle in Glasgow.

The two men, David and Ian, claim he told them, "People like you shouldn't be on this f*****g bus," as they got on the McGill's bus on Friday 10 June.

They said he refused to let them on the bus a few days later.

The couple, in their 20s, said they were told they were banned from using McGill's services.

According to the Scotsman, a 46-year-old man was arrested under a law that deals with homophobic offences.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that on June 17 a 46-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged offence contrary to section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 which is alleged to have occurred in Peat Road in Pollock on June 10.

"A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal."

The couple said they sat in "shock" through the short journey.

Speaking to the Daily Record, David said: "I can't believe someone can be so abusive, and that two people have to be subjected to such vile comments when doing as something as simple as stepping on to a bus."
