Varsity Blues actor Ron Lester dies from organ failure aged 45
US actor Ron Lester, perhaps best known playing Billy Bob in the 1999 American football film Varsity Blues, has died of organ failure aged 45.
His agent, Dave Bradley, confirmed on Saturday that the star had been hospitalised since February due to liver and kidney complications.
He said Ron was removed from a ventilator and died on Friday.
The actor announced that he was being treated for liver and kidney ailments last year.
Born in Georgia, Ron had struggled with his weight since childhood. In 2014, he told online sports publication Grantland that he once weighed more than 500 pounds (35 stone) before undergoing gastric bypass surgery.
He lost around 300 pounds (21 stone), but said acting opportunities dried up after he lost the weight.
Ron's first movie role came in 1997´s Good Burger alongside Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell from Nickelodeon TV series Kenan & Kel.
His other screen credits include Not Another Teen Movie and CSI: NY.
