An ambulance was called and paramedics tried to save him but were unsuccessful.

According to the Daily Star, Kenneth Jensen, the Central Intelligence Director of Copenhagen Police, said: "The 24-year-old father and 23-year-old mother had gone to the cemetery to play with their son, as they often do. They play a form of hide and seek with him, but tragically during the game one stone overturned."

The area where the tragedy happened was closed off for several hours as forensic officers examined the scene.

It was not clear whether the child died in the cemetery or at the hospital.

The Daily Mail reports that the service area manager of the cemetery, Jon Pape, said: "It's absolutely terrible. Together with the police we will find out what happened."
