The Liver Birds tribute to Carla Lane was greeted with praise on social media

Writer Carla Lane, who died recently, was celebrated on BBC Two with a repeat of The Liver Birds, the 1970s sitcom that set her on the path to stardom.

Set in Liverpool, The Liver Birds starred Polly James as Beryl Hennessey and Nerys Hughes as Sandra Hutchinson. The two women were flatmates trying to navigate their way through life and love.

The tribute episode, Follow That Ring, was from 1974 and revolved around Beryl losing her engagement ring. The episode featured a number of established and soon-to-be famous actors such as Mollie Sugden from Are You Being Served? and a-pre Bergerac and Midsomer Murders' John Nettles.
