This chicken is sailing around the world (yes, really)

Meet Monique, the chicken that has spent two years sailing across the world with her friend Guirec Soudee.

The pair met on the Canary Islands and it sounds like it was love at first sight!

From that moment on the sailor and his pet got on board and sailed their way off to the Caribbean.

Most recently they travelled to Greenland where they spent four months stuck in the ice.

While Guirec does most of the hard work, Monique keeps him company and fed - she lays an average of six eggs per week.

They share food like pasta, rice and Monique's guilty pleasure, flying fish. She apparently catches these once they have landed on deck.

Monique also enjoys surfing, skateboarding and sledding amongst other things.

They pair have managed to build a social media following with their Facebook videos, Instagram snaps and documenting their journey on their website.

It also seems like Guirec is in the process of writing a children's book about his adventures with Monique that is due to be published next year.
