According to the Mirror, the teen was thrown at least 10ft to the ground in front of a horrified crowd.

Photos of the incident were shared on Facebook. One onlooker, Rob Holmes, wrote: "I thought I'd post this as I can't believe what happened earlier at the Fun Fair (Westway Common, Caterham). Jake and his friend Rose were all ready at the front of the ride, about to go on the Ghost Train before we heard people screaming from the side of the ride.

"The ghost cart SMASHED through the side of the ride and threw two boys through the air.

"They were laying on the ground hurt, but we called them an ambulance."

According to the Evening Standard, a South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said they were called to the scene at 6.41pm on Friday.

A 14-year-old boy was taken by ambulance to East Surrey Hospital.
