An Asda wine has won the prestigious 'Platinum Best in Show' award at the Decanter World Wine Awards. It was named the best bottle of wine in the world for under £15 - and the added bonus is that it costs just £4.37.

The winning wine was the La Moneda Reserva Malbec from Chile. It fought off Chilean rivals wines in a blind taste test to win its category, then made it to the shortlist of some the best red wines in the competition, before being named the best single-varietal under £15.

It was described as tasting like: "freshly crushed black fruit, creamy vanilla yoghurt and pepper spice" with "succulent juicy berries on the palate".

Asda is said to be stocking up, but an award like this for a wine of this price is likely to mean the shelves are cleared over the weekend. Ed Betts, Wine Buying Manager says: "The La Moneda Reserva Malbec is also currently on rollback at £4.37, and as the perfect match to barbecued meats, we're expecting high demand in the coming weeks!" So if you want to try the best wine in the world and you have a fiver to spare, therefore, it would be wise to pop into Asda sooner rather than later.
