Classic Alfa Romeo sells for huge amount at auction

One of just 193 Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior Stradale ever made has headed to auction and has fetched a fearsome amount.

Built in 1968, the GTA 1300 is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing around 110bhp. Built as a special lightweight version of the Giulia Coupe, it was developed initially for racing – though Stradale versions were designed for the road.
This particular Junior Stradale was the final car to be sold from the factory as new, and remains in completely unrestored condition. It was delivered to a Florence-based racing team in 1975, who had planned to race the car after converting it for track use. However, the class rules were changed by the FIA, which made the little Junior Stradale unable to compete.

It was then used by its owner on the public roads, before being sold to a German collector. The car was then bought by a Japanese Alfa Romeo enthusiast.

Now, the car sits without any rust and with just 39,000 miles on the clock. With an exceptional level of care and maintenance given to it, the Junior Stradale is completely original – even down to its black vinyl interior.

Of course, with this level of history and quality, the Junior Stradale was bound to come with a high asking price. That's why the little Alfa recently sold for an incredible £106,705 when it went under the hammer at a Bonhams auction on June 5.

Whoever bought the car has now found themselves with one of the very best examples of a Junior Stradale in the world – though for an equally impressive price.
