British tourist killed in quad biking accident in Turkey

A British tourist has died in a quad biking accident on holiday in Turkey.

Amarna Carthy, 21, from Nottingham, was riding with a relative, Jakadi Clarke, when they plunged into a ditch in Fetiyhe on Monday night.

They had reportedly pulled over onto what they thought was a hard shoulder in a bid to let "agitated" drivers past, but it was actually a steep verge.

Ms Carthy was reportedly killed instantly after suffering severe head injuries, despite the fact she was wearing a helmet.

She was due to fly home just 48 hours after the crash.

Her mother Tashaka Baumber flew out with her father Mark Carny at 5pm on Tuesday.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she said: "She had wanted the entire family to go out there, but I never thought it would be under these circumstances.

'She knew all of the locals and they are coming up to me in the street and "saying it feels like they have lost a sister.

"Nothing will make this better but it helps knowing how well-loved she is."

According to The Sun, she added: "She was kind-hearted and friendly. She was so strong and I'd like to think her strength is going to live on through us."

The Nottingham Post reports the pair had been on a week's holiday and were due to fly home on Thursday.

Stepdad Craig Baumber told the paper: "As far as we know, they pulled into the country's equivalent of the hard shoulder to let the cars behind them pass, but they ended up running out of road and going down a verge."

The family have set up a JustGiving page in a bid to raise money to bring Amarna's body home.

They are also raising money to help pay for a flight to bring Ms Clarke home after she suffered a fractured pelvis in the crash.

A host of friends and family paid tribute to Amarna on Facebook, describing her as "beautiful", an "angel" and "full of life and ambition".
