Pensioner dies as seven boats capsize in Moray yacht race

A 69-year-old man has died after his boat capsizes during a yacht racing event in the Findhorn Bay area of Moray on Saturday.

It is believed a strong gust of wind overturned seven boats and the pensioner, who was not taking part in the race, was brought ashore.

The Daily Mirror reports that he died at the scene.

A police spokeswoman confirmed his death and said: "Police and other emergency services responded to reports of a man in difficulty today, Saturday, May 21, at around 1.45pm.

"The man was brought ashore but he sadly died at the scene."

Speaking to Press and Journal, the spokeswoman said his family had been informed.

The spokeswoman added: "There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and as with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We received an emergency call at 1.50pm to attend the scene. Three ambulance crews attended."
