NCIS: New Orleans star Scott Bakula embraces his action man persona

NCIS: New Orleans star Scott Bakula has revealed how much he goes against his nature in the crime series.

The actor, who is best known for his role as the time-travelling physicist in the sci-fi series Quantum Leap, now embraces his action man persona as Special Agent Dwayne Pride.

Speaking on the set of the show in New Orleans, Scott said: "It's always fun to go against your nature and get to do things that aren't in your wheel house.

"I don't have a tradition of doing a movie on a plane, where I kill everybody, and throw everybody off the plane, and land it myself, so it's fun to get a little dirty sometimes and this guy definitely goes off the rails."

Fans of the drama and the original series of NCIS will see the cast members of both shows combine for two special crossover episodes.

Scott and NCIS star Mark Harmon are forced to join up when the two teams come together to solve a murder that takes place on a flight from Washington DC to the Big Easy.

Scott said: "Filming it was very complicated, it was a big challenge for everybody organising it but it all worked out pretty well.

"We had a lot of help to make it look effortless."

Comparing the different dynamics between the two casts, he said: "They are 13 years into their story and we are barely two years in. We have had a couple of babies on the show but they have gone through a lot of life together, they are very tight."

NCIS: New Orleans is filmed in the city from which it takes its title, and one climactic scene from the crossover was filmed in the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Scott said including the city in the show is one of the great joys, but he also loves the culinary delights on offer.

He said: "I'm a salt guy so I love all of the grits but it's hard to pin one thing down. The sauces are off the charts, the drinks are off the charts."

The crossover episodes of NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans will air on May 7 at 7pm and 8pm on Channel 5.
