Girl dies and two boys are missing after car crashes into brick wall

A teenage girl has died and two boys are missing after the car they were travelling in hit a brick wall in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of an accident on Manchester Road near to Stamford Road in Altrincham involving a black Toyota Auris which had hit the wall close to a block of flats, just after 10.50am.

They found a 45-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl; a second girl, believed to be in her early teens, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed that four children had been in the vehicle, but that an 11-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy had run from the car shortly after impact.

An investigation is under way to find the boys, who could be injured. Police appealed for witnesses.

A spokesman for GMP said: "Police discovered a man and two children in the vehicle. A 45-year-old man and an 11-year-old girl have been taken to hospital. Sadly a teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene."

Inspector Paul Rowe from GMP's Salford Division said: "Our thoughts are with the girl's family at this devastating time. We are at the very earliest stages in this investigation however our specialist officers will be offering our complete support to them.

"Our priority now is to find the two boys that we believe were in the car when it crashed. We want to make sure they are okay, and find out exactly what happened.

"We are appealing for anyone who may know their whereabouts to get in touch with police as soon as possible. We are also appealing for anyone who saw the collision to get in touch with police so we can find out what caused this tragedy."
