Man dies after street attack in Wigan

A man has died after being attacked by a group of people.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said an investigation has been launched and inquiries are on-going following the incident in Wigan on Wednesday evening.

The victim was taken to hospital but died later.

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 11.30pm on Wednesday May 4, a man believed to be in his 40s was attacked by a group of people on Railway Road in Leigh.

"He was treated at the scene by the ambulance service before being taken to hospital, where he tragically died sometime later."
