This plane carrying 93 passengers skidded off the runway after landing during heavy rain in Cuenca, southern Ecuador.

Another shot shows the back of the plane which appears to have become lodged in the top of a wall during the accident.

Barbara Vacacela, a passenger on board at the time of the incident, said it was a "desperate" situation: "... Smoke started to come out from the back and they said it was from the turbine and that it might explode. People were trying to get their luggage instead of trying to get out quickly."

Two people were hospitalised with light injuries and the accident forced the shutdown of operations at the airport.
