The news comes on the same day that a host of reports involving drunken passenger behaviour hit the headlines.

Yesterday (Thursday), two British men on board an Ryanair flight forced a plane full of Liverpool football fans to divert to France after a drunken fight.

The flight to Alicante was diverted after the men, who were on a stag do, were allegedly "endangering other passengers". They were arrested upon landing and were even too drink to answer questions properly, according to the Daily Mail.

On the same day, another "drunk and disruptive" passenger caused an Easyjet flight from Bristol to Malaga to turn around mid-journey, according to the Bristol Post.

The 55-year-old man was arrested on the runway back in Bristol.

And in a separate incident, two women flying from Belfast were escorted off an Easyjet flight by Spanish police in Barcelona after becoming "abusive and disruptive".

The drunken pair were among a group of 14 flying from Belfast to Barcelona on Wednesday morning to celebrate a 50th birthday, reports the Belfast Telegraph.

The Opodo study sampled more than 1,375 Brits and 6,832 participants across Europe.

Lukas Balter, destination expert at the travel company, said: "We Brits really embrace our long weekends and this Bank Holiday will be no different – we're seeing a spike in travel to party hot-spots such as Ibiza and Malia.

"For many, the holiday starts before they even touch down on foreign ground and, unfortunately, in some scenarios it can lead to some embarrassing events. From our research, it's clear that the majority of Brits think that some sort of alcohol regulation should be put into place – with four in ten saying that two drinks should be the limit. We encourage all travellers to make the most of their holidays but to drink responsibly, so they can remember the good times!"
