A British tourist who has been in a Spanish hospital for six months after collapsing on holiday is desperate to spend his last days back home in the UK.

Tony Harries, 57, is stuck in a Barcelona hospital as he is too ill to fly. His family are desperately trying to raise £5,000 to pay for a private ambulance to bring him home to Wales.

According to the Wales Online, his sister Diane said: "Tony is desperate to come home. He knows he is dying.

"We are hoping that we can get him back here in time."

Tony, from Swansea, was taken ill with a respiratory disease last October, and doctors have said there is now nothing else they can do.

Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post, Tony's brother Bryan said: "Tony's wish is to come home to Wales to die and we are doing everything we can to make this possible but we simply do not have the money we need.

"Tony is very well known in Gorseinon where the whole family lives and is also a keen bowler and is very popular in bowling circles. We are hoping that Tony's friends and fellow bowlers will help to raise this money."

Gower MP Byron Davies is also on board trying to get Tony home by liaising with both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and with British Embassy staff in Spain.

He said: "It is tragic that he is losing his life at a relatively young age but the least we can do is try and raise the money needed to bring him home.

"But time is not on our side."

The family have now set up a JustGiving page in a bid to make sure it happens.
