According to Mashable, the 67-year-old Weng was visiting the nature reserve as part of a photo shooting activity organised by the Shanghai Yelv Travel Agency.

The Daily Mail reports that the Yuntai Mountain Management Bureau confirmed the incident, and released a statement that said Wen was touring the Tanpu Valley at the time.

It said: "At 9.25am on April 19, members of staff at Xiaozhaigou were informed of a case of injury.

"The tourist, Weng Mao, was hit by a stone kicked down by a monkey near the pavilion when he was touring Tanpu Valley."

Weng had reportedly taken up photography after he retired.
