Jo Wood, the ex-wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, has reportedly taken action to evict her brother from the house in Oakhampton where he's been living rent-free for ten years.

Vinnie Karslake, 54, was once Ronnie Wood's personal assistant and is still a friend of the musician. He moved into the semi-detached house in 2006 and lived rent-free as he was out of work.

When the Woods divorced in 2011, Jo was awarded the property - and has now taken steps to evict Karslake through the courts.

"The house was bought by Ronnie to help Vinnie. It was never put in Vinnie's name which is what Ronnie would have done if either he or I had intended it to be Vinnie's 'home'," Ms Wood tells the Daily Mail.

"I wanted Vinnie, then and now, not in work, to live rent-free so that he and the boys could be near our mother and their grandmother."

And while Barnstaple County Court ordered Mr Karslake to pay her £2,870 legal costs, Ms Wood says she has no intention of making him pay.

Family feuds

Property ownership can often cause family feuds. Earlier this year, Ann Hermsen-Wilkinson, 72, evicted her daughter, 45-year-old events organiser Caroline Hermsen from the £1 million Knightsbridge flat in which she'd been living for 20 years. In that case, the daughter claimed the property should have been hers.

In another case, 45-year-old farmer's daughter Eirian Davies sued her parents after they evicted her from the family farm in Dyfed, Wales, claiming that they had promised her all her life that if she worked hard on the farm she'd inherit it. She won her case - but her parents are mounting an appeal.

Anybody hoping to help out a family member with a place to live is advised to draw up a proper contract, setting out the terms of the arrangement clearly. This won't only provide protection in the case of a dispute, but should also minimise the chance of a row by making it clear where everybody stands.
