Did JJ Abrams just drop a huge clue about Rey's parents?
Who's the daddy? That was one of the big questions raised at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Now director JJ Abrams has seemingly ruled out a number of likely suspects for Rey's parents.
He has already said he knows who Rey's parents are and isn't naming names, but he did give some more clues during an audience Q&A at the Tribeca Film Festival.
A young fan asked the question on many Star Wars fans' minds: Who are Rey's parents?
The director replied: "Rey's parents are not in Episode VII. So I can't possibly say in this moment who they are. But I will say it is something that Rey thinks about, too."
This flies in the face of fan theories that Rey could be Luke's daughter or the daughter of Luke's sister Leia, and possibly Han Solo, making her Kylo Ren's sister.
After the Q&A, though, JJ clarified his comments to Entertainment Weekly, saying: "What I meant was that she doesn't discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world."
In an on-stage conversation with Chris Rock, JJ discussed his decision to keep Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker out of the film until the very end, telling the comedian: "We knew that getting to Luke was the whole story."
