Kate opts for traditional skirt as Bhutan tour gets under way

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a one-of-a-kind traditional Bhutanese skirt as she touched down with the Duke of Cambridge for a whirlwind tour of the small mountainous nation.

Kate looked elegant in the full-length purple and turquoise patterned skirt, which was made using fabric from Bhutan, on day five of the royal tour.

She teamed it with a pair of nude heels and a cream Paul & Joe embroidered wool cape, clinched with a decorative belt.

The Duchess wore her hair pinned back in loose curls, showing off droplet earrings, as she was welcomed by the King and Queen of Bhutan in Thimphu before later taking part in an archery event.

Mrs Kelzang Wangmo, who made the material for the skirt, said she was "so happy" to see Kate wearing her dress, in footage posted to the Kensington Palace official Twitter page.

"I'm so happy the Duchess is wearing that dress from my shop. I'm so happy", she said.

The cape - which is from the Paul & Joe Spring/Summer collection and retails at £340 - has "sold out", according to a spokeswoman from the flagship London store.

But owners of the cape were quick to spot their opportunity.

There were several listings for the out-of-stock item on auction site eBay within hours of Kate stepping out in the outfit, with one suggesting a "buy it now" price of £950.10.
