Search for five people 'missing at Bridlington beach' called off

A search for five people reported being caught in rising tides at a beach in Bridlington has been called off.

The precautionary search was launched at around 4.35pm on Tuesday when a woman in wet clothing said she saw two adults and three children in trouble as she struggled to get off the beach in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, reports the Hull Daily Mail.

Humberside Police said the woman approached a second lady at the North Pier and said she was going to get help.

When she didn't return, the second woman raised the alarm.

A search involving Bridlington and Filey Coastguard Rescue Teams, RNLI Bridlington Inshore and All Weather boats, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 912 and Humberside Police was called off at around 8pm.



According to the Yorkshire Post, a Humberside Police spokesman said: "It is not known if the other five people she mentioned had already returned to shore. However, the force has not received any reports of people missing in the area."


Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team wrote in an update on Facebook: "Following an extensive land, sea and air search of the area lasting 4 hours nothing has been found and all teams have now returned to their stations."
