American muscle returns to UK, as Chevrolet Camaro prices announced
American muscle fans can still get their fix of full-fat V8s, despite Chevrolet pulling out of the UK market, thanks to a solitary dealer in Virginia Water, Surrey.
Prices for the sixth-generation Camaro start at £32,500 for the Camaro 2.0-litre Turbo, which develops 275bhp and can rocket from 0-60mph in 5.5-seconds. However, the snarling V8, which develops a stonking 455bhp and sprints from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, costs £37,000.Both models come in either coupe or convertible body styles but unfortunately, they are only available here in left-hand-drive, which may immediately put the brakes on a decision from keen buyers.
The latest iteration uses aluminium in the body and under the skin to shave 90kg off the kerbweight, while it's 57mm shorter and 20mm narrower than before, making navigating UK roads a little easier.
Eagle-eyed readers will notice that the Camaro is slightly more expensive than the new Ford Mustang, which has been specially developed for European roads for the first time and doesn't come fitted with a steering wheel that's on the wrong side.
According to Car Magazine, the UK distributor has 15 order slots for the coupe and three for convertibles, and orders can be taken now.
A selection of upgrades are on offer, too, including magnetic ride control for the V8 versions –a £1460 option - plus an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which costs the same.
Each car will come with a three-year European warranty, too, and there are several UK-based dealers who can service them.
