Kayaking may not seem like the most dangerous sport, one enthusiast was in for a shock and lucky to end up alive when he took to the water recently.

The footage above shows Lance Burgos happily sitting in his kayak with his daughter while trying to extract his makeshift buoy from the water.

Confusion strikes as he realises the buoy must be trapped on something in the water, he tugs at the string and just moments later we find out why it wouldn't come loose in the first place!

The giant mouth of an alligator suddenly pokes through the surface of the water and it's razor-sharp teeth are glaringly obvious.

The man understandably jumps out of his skin but manages to keep the kayak afloat and peddle away quickly.

The man had reportedly been camping and hiking with his daughter and they have both since said they'll probably have nightmares about this terrifying moment!

The footage was originally posted to YouTube by Burgos under the title 'That Is NOT a Catfish on the End of the Line', with the caption: " It wasn't what I expected. Kayaking and camping at Lake Fausse Point State Park, St. Martinville, La., will never be the same."
