Harry unveils UK team for 2016 Invictus Games in Florida

Prince Harry has unveiled the UK's team of veterans and serving men and women who will compete in the 2016 Invictus Games.

He joined nearly all of the 110 athletes selected for Paralympics-style sporting spectacle for a photocall on Buckingham Palace's rainy and windswept forecourt ahead of the Games, which will be staged in Orlando, Florida, next month.

Former Army Captain David Wiseman was named as the 2016 captain, taking over from Dave Henson, who led the UK team for the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014.

Harry has been the driving force behind the Games, which were greeted with great acclaim from competitors and spectators when first staged two years ago.

It aims to challenge wounded, sick or injured service personnel, and those who have left the armed forces, to strive for sporting excellence.

New team captain Mr Wiseman said: "I have a huge emotional attachment to the Invictus Games and could not be prouder to have been selected to captain the UK team at Orlando 2016.

"The reason for my pride? I think the Invictus Games is a shining example of what this community can achieve, a group of individuals from around the world coming together in order to show everyone that beyond injury, they can achieve the extraordinary."

The Prince is already focused on the next Invictus Games, which will be held in Toronto in 2017, and it was announced that he will travel to the Canadian city on May 2 to attend a number of engagements marking the official launch of the countdown to the third Games.

He will then fly to Florida to take part in the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup on May 4, hosted at Valiente Polo Farm in Wellington.

From there, Harry will move to Orlando, where he will be based for the Invictus Games.
