The boat, called the Adventure Hornblower, crashed into the walkway of the city's Embarcadero harbourside at 12.55pm on Friday.

Footage of the incident shows people on the sidewalk slowly realising that the boat is not going to stop, before desperately running out of harm's way.

According to NBC News, three of the 139 people on board were injured and taken to hospital.

The site added that the boat was one of a fleet operated by San Diego's Hornblower Cruises & Events, and boasts three decks, four bars and a dance floor.

It's also used for whale and dolphin watching.
