A volcanic eruption in Alaska forced the cancellation of more than 40 flights after it spewed out ash up to seven miles into the atmosphere.

Residents of the near-by town of Cold Bay reported ash and lava flowing from Pavlof Volcano which is located in a remote area at the tip of the Alaskan peninsula. Along with the stunning show experts also measured increased seismic activity in the area.

For one lucky airline passenger, it proved an amazing birds-eye view of a rare natural event.
