With their peroxide blonde locks, svelte size eight figures and stunning youthful looks, these two women are often mistaken for sisters.

But 57-year-old Janet Horrocks has spent £40,000 and endured extensive cosmetic surgery to look like her 35-year-old daughter Jane Cunliffe.

Janet's extensive beauty regime includes regular Botox and fillers to keep up with her only daughter – much to Jane's disdain.

While Janet is adamant that she will never give up in her quest for eternal youth, Jane is firmly anti-surgery and fears that one day she will look older than her plastic-obsessed mum.

Single Janet, who split from Jane's dad in 2002, said: "My goal was to look like Jane because I created her, so really she had a similar look to me and I didn't have a long way to go.

"I just had to do a bit of playing about with my body and face to look younger.

"She got her looks from me in the first place. All I am doing is just maintaining that look."

Janet, from Burnley, Lancashire, started her transformation in 2001 and went on to have two boob jobs, an eye-lift, a nose job and veneers – totalling £20,000.

She lost two stone and went on to have hair extensions, laser resurfacing to her face and eyebrow tattooing – as well as botox and regular fillers – costing a further £20,000 over the years.

Janet said: "I'd put on weight and I felt dowdy and unattractive. I remember looking at Jane and thinking 'I used to have a figure like yours'.

"Time had taken its toll on my breasts and I felt like I needed some help to reverse the effects of time."

Janet, an accountant, spent £8,000 on two breast implant surgeries, taking her from a 34A to an E cup.

She slimmed from a size 14 to an eight and started having Botox and fillers at £500 a time.

At first Janet tried to keep her intentions under wraps - and Jane was not impressed when her mum came clean.

Janet said: "When I first told her my new look was based on her, she was shocked and couldn't understand why a mum would want to look like her daughter.

"She was quite annoyed at first."

Despite Jane's concerns about her mum's surgery, Janet spent a further £5,000 on a nose job and eye-lift in 2008 and £7,000 on a new set of pearly-white veneers in 2014.

Janet's confidence soared but Jane found it difficult to come to terms with her mum's appearance overhaul.

Jane, a full time mum, said: "I worried that eventually she'd look younger than me and it was upsetting because a daughter shouldn't look older than her mother.

"I felt like my youth had been taken away and it didn't feel fair."

The duo began to turn heads when they went out and about together in public, with many mistaking the mum and daughter as sisters – much to Janet's delight.

Jane, however, was not so pleased about the comparison and stopped going out with her mum for a couple of months as after her self esteem suffered.

Jane, mum to a six-month-old baby, said: "It upset me when people thought we were sisters and it stopped me wanting to go anywhere together.

"I was young and a lot more sensitive than I am now and I found it difficult at first."

Unlike her youth-obsessed mum, Jane is completely opposed to cosmetic surgery. She doesn't wear hair extensions and is adamant that she will 'grow old gracefully'.

But Janet admits she doesn't have any intention of slowing down and says that surgery and Botox has changed her life.

She said: "I don't want to die a wrinkly old woman, I'll be having that needle on my death bed. It's my body and I'll do what I want, if people don't like it I'm not really fussed.

"Jane didn't like it at first but eventually she had no choice but to accept it. The way I see it she got her looks from me anyway so she can't really complain."

Now Jane is finally starting to mellow towards her mum's quest for perfection.

Jane said: "My relationship with my mum is a really good one.

"We are very, very close. She is like my sister and mother all in one.

"I think the amount of money that my mum has spent on cosmetic surgery is silly but at the end of the day it makes her feel good, and it has makes her feel confident."

Now Janet is focusing on keeping her look fresh.

She said: "I always want to maintain this look. It's just me and I can't help it. I will continue to do so until the day I die."
