Harry greeted by prime minister as Nepal visit begins

Prince Harry has given the prime minister of Nepal a traditional nameste greeting during a meeting to mark his first visit to the country.

Clasping his hands together and smiling, Harry performed the gesture well known across Nepal and neighbouring India, and his actions were mirrored by Khadga Prasad Oli.

It is an ancient Sanskrit greeting which has a number of translations, including "the spirit in me salutes the spirit in you".

The two men sat down for informal talks in the official residence of the prime minister - known as KP Oli - in the capital Kathmandu.

Harry looked smart in a shirt and tie and told the politician, who took up office last October, he had just arrived in the country two hours ago for his five-day visit.

The prince and the prime minister sat side-by-side on a sofa with their entourages seated nearby.

Harry was joined by his advisor Sir David Manning, a former UK ambassador to America, and private secretary Ed Lane Fox.
