Woman billed twice for missing shopping decides to help herself

A furious mother was so cross at delays to her Asda grocery delivery that she marched into the store and helped herself.

Nursery nurse Danni Leadbeater, 30, ordered £50 worth of shopping from the supermarket for herself and her two young children last week. But her delivery was cancelled because of a shortage of drivers, and she was told that she would have to wait up to ten days for a refund.

The next day she attempted to re-book - only for the same thing to happen again. And after finally losing patience, Danni decided to take matters into her own hands and go and collect her groceries from the local Eastlands, Manchester store instead.

"The whole thing was so annoying and frustrating. I've got two little ones to feed so the waiting around so was starting to cause me a problem," she tells the Manchester Evening News.

"I thought it was ridiculous I had to pay a second time so when that one didn't turn up I'd just had enough. A hundred pounds is a lot of money for a single mum like me."

Because the money had already been taken from her account - twice - Danni couldn't and wouldn't pay for a third time. Unsurprisingly, there was quite a standoff with the store's security guards before the store's managers consulted head office and Danni was finally allowed to leave with her shopping.

But, says Danni, "Even in store not one member of staff apologised to me."

Customers fed up with poor supermarket delivery services should consider taking their business to Iceland, which was recently rated the best online supermarket in a survey by Which?.

Asda, by contrast, was the lowest-rated online store, with a complicated ordering process, and has also been slated for its high number of substitutions.

And, comments Which? director of campaigns Alex Neill, "When it comes to online shopping, we know convenient and low cost delivery slots are prominent factors in where people choose to shop."
