Britain has been battered by gales, sleet and snow this week but there is good news for the weekend, which could see highs of 13C in southern England.

Leon Brown, meteorologist at The Weather Channel, told Aol Travel: "There is high pressure building from the east with plenty of sunshine expected next week. It is expected to be cold at night with frosts, but pleasant in the sunshine.

"There will be chilly east to northeast breezes at times over eastern and southern Britain and the warmest temperatures will be seen in the north and west UK."

However, before we get too excited, he added: "There will be a change to unsettled weather again during the run up to Easter."
