'Drunken' British stag party causes Ryanair flight to divert

A Ryanair flight from London to Bratislava was diverted to Berlin after a rowdy stag party, including the groom, disturbed security on board the plane and ignored the crew's instructions.

The six British men, aged between 25 and 28, were part of a group of 12 travelling to the Slovakian capital on Friday evening.

According to the BBC, the pilot decided to make the unscheduled landing after the 'drunken' group, from Southampton, became unruly.

German police officers met the flight in Berlin and the six men were removed while the remaining six members continued their journey without the groom.

In a statement to the Associated Press, police said the allegedly drunk Englishmen now face fines of up to €25,000 (£19,700) each and civil claims from Ryanair.

Last year, the airline implemented a ban on passengers bringing duty-free alcohol on board flights to Ibiza.

The budget carrier sent passengers emails to make them aware of the new regulations.

It stated: "Customers will not be allowed to carry alcohol on board and all cabin baggage will be searched at boarding gates.

"Any alcohol purchased in airport shops or elsewhere must be packed carefully in a suitable item of cabin baggage, which will be tagged at the gate and then placed in the aircraft hold free of charge."

Earlier that week, a flight from Glasgow to Ibiza had gotten out of hand when a group of passengers starting singing and playing loud music.

Services between the Scottish city and Ibiza are notoriously rowdy and in April last year, tourists on Ryanair flights from Glasgow Prestwick airport to Ibiza were told they would no longer be able to take alcohol on flights, which potentially spurred on the nationwide ban.
