British Airways flight makes 'priority landing' after declaring medical emergency

A British Airways flight from Seattle made a 'priority landing' at Heathrow after declaring an emergency just 30 minutes before it was scheduled to land in London.

The pilot of flight BA48 alerted Air Traffic Control of the emergency and medical services assisted once the Boeing 777 landed, the Daily Mail reports.

A British Airways spokesman told the Daily Express: "Our cabin crew cared for an unwell customer on board so the captain requested a routine priority landing. Medical services met the flight to provide assistance.

"Emergency status allows the ambulance to go out and meet them.

"The plane landed as normal and the ambulance went to meet the passenger."

Details of the passenger's condition were not released.

In 2014, a British Airways flight from Nigeria to London was diverted to Majorca when a woman gave birth just 26 weeks into her pregnancy.

The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing on the Spanish island after Ujunwa Ozeh, 31, went into labour at 36,000 feet.

BA cabin crew helped medical staff at the airport in Palma with the baby.

Ozeh gave birth in Business Class on the Boeing 777 carrying 296 passengers.

The mum of two was travelling with her one-year-old daughter and was planning on a trip to Washington, USA for a holiday.
