Top Gear tracks queasy rider Chris Evans' sick day at the races

Updated

Teaser footage from the all-new Top Gear has been shown for the first time and host Chris Evans is featured looking green around the gills as German racing driver Sabine Schmitz takes him for a spin around the racetrack.

BBC Worldwide debuted a short showreel exclusively to international TV buyers at their annual showcase in Liverpool.

In the footage, Evans shows he is not shy to poke fun at himself as he stops the car mid-journey to be sick during what looks like a white knuckle ride from Schmitz.

Other snippets from the new-look glossy footage included McLaren's star F1 driver Jenson Button taking Evans for a spin around the famous Top Gear track and Schmitz and Evans in a high-speed dog fight at the Top Gun training base in Nevada.

There was also a cheeky flash of Matt LeBlanc's Hollywood grin braving the British weather in the open top Reliant Rialto three-wheeler on his way from London to Blackpool, as well as Rory Reid driving the new Ford Mustang in Scotland and Chris Harris driving the new Ferrari F12tdf.

The evening also included a surprise appearance by football star David Beckham, who joined Evans to talk about his BBC documentary For The Love Of The Game.

The show saw Beckham travelling around the world to play a football match on all seven continents, with a race back to the United Kingdom to play in a star-studded match at Old Trafford in aid of Unicef.

Evans introduced the new presenting line-up for the popular BBC Two show which returns to TV screens in May and features Schmitz, former Friends star LeBlanc, motoring journalist Harris, car reviewer Reid, The Stig and Formula 1 commentator Eddie Jordan.

The presenters made their entrance in style as they were driven into Liverpool's Echo arena in a range of impressive supercars, among them the Aston Martin DB10, which was made for the latest James Bond film Spectre.

Jordan sent a video message welcoming LeBlanc to the team from South Africa, where he is attending a charity event.

Schmitz affectionately called Evans her "little ginger tomcat", while The Stig remained his usual stoic self as Evans tried to coax a comment out of him, only to have the car door shut in his face.

The evening was finished off with an energetic performance from singer Tinie Tempah.
