Polar bears meet for first time and become instant friends (video)

The moment two polar bears at Yorkshire Wildlife Park met for the first time and hit it off right away was captured on camera.

Nobby and Nissan, both two years old, appeared delighted to see each other and were filmed splashing around in the water.

The Wildlife Park shared a video of the pair in their enclosure on its Facebook page and wrote: "Nissan and Nobby certainly weren't shy when they met this morning!"

Animal manager Simon Marsh told ITV News: "Nissan was a bit muddy from playing out but he was keen to break off the fun to see what all the fuss was about when Nobby arrived.

"Polar bears are used to leaving their mothers at two years old and travelling around to find new groupings so this was a natural feeling for both of them. They clearly got along from the start."

Nobby arrived from Munich on 18 February and is the fourth polar bear at the park.

Speaking on his arrival, Mr Marsh said: "The Polar Reserve is spacious and designed to stimulate the bears and ensure they have enough room to roam, forage, play and swim. I'm sure Nobby will quickly become a favourite just like Victor, Pixel and Nissan."
