AirBNB may have started as a super-cheap way of finding short-term accommodation - but it's now attracting a rather different type of customer.

It's emerged that singer Beyonce, who performed at the US Super Bowl football championship last week, shunned hotels and instead used the site to find somewhere to stay.

She posted a photo of herself in the house on her Facebook page, with the comment: "It was a Super weekend Airbnb."

The star is believed to have been renting a $10,000-a-night estate in the smart Silicon Valley area of Los Altos Hills. The luxury modern pad has five bedrooms, eight baths and a games room and fitness centre, as well as an infinity pool.

"Tremendous walls of glass, some that entirely disappear, provide seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces and take advantage of 270 degree views from San Francisco and across the bay to all of Silicon Valley," reads the listing.

"Designed for entertaining, guest will enjoy the outdoor fireplace, vanished edge pool and spa."

The kitchen.

The kitchen is particularly extravagant, with no fewer than five ovens, a steam oven, three dishwashers, a butler's pantry and induction cooktop - and there's a 'full outdoor kitchen' as well.

Outside, the 11 acres surrounding the property contain an orchard, and a rooftop vegetable garden provide fresh fruit and vegetables all year round. There are even chickens, to give guests fresh eggs.

And Beyonce isn't the only celebrity to use the site. Gwyneth Paltrow, for example, recently rented an $8,000-per-night villa in Mexico for a family holiday, tweeting: "@airbnb who knew??"

Maria Carey, meanwhile, recently posted a selfie showing her in a luxury rental booked through the site: "Enjoying Malibu in my @airbnb," she wrote.

And some celebrities, too, are letting out their own places through the site.

Former Formula One driver Eddie Irvine, for example, recently listed his house in Dublin, asking £939 per night. Actress Emily Blunt, Mariah Carey and Brazilian football star Ronaldinho have all let out properties they own too, allowing fans to get a taste of their life.
