That's right - you could own your own little bit of history for just over half a million quid.

It's not hard to see why it's classed as an "extremely rare listing" by property consultants Lambert Smith Hampton.

The 236-bed bunker was built by the UK government in the late 1980s to keep high-ranking officials in Northern Ireland safe from a potential nuclear strike from the Soviets.

The 46,383 square foot, two-floor bunker is pretty much untouched from its 1980s heyday, giving the whole place a retro vibe.

The building, in Ballymena, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland, was finished in 1990 and has been maintained in "a fit and ready state" but was "never actually used for its intended purpose", according to the listing.

Can't help but think we would have heard about it if it had *been* used.

This place could be yours for £575,000.

On a negative, there's no windows, but on a plus side you do get to keep the stash of canned food in the kitchen, reported the Metro.

There's also conference rooms, BBC broadcasting facilities and what nuclear bunker would be complete without a decontamination chamber?

"In the event of a nuclear attack the building could have operated in a closed down situation for approximately 30 days," the sales brochure explains.

"The services and life support systems were designed to make the building and its occupants self sufficient for this length of time."

Although it could be a great party pad, it's likely to be used for data or document storage, or a tourist attraction.
